I applied for Erasmus for the first time because I felt lost in my own country. I was trying to break the routine, get away from everything, and find a sense of direction. I had no idea then that those five months in Ljubljana would change me more than anything else ever had.

Erasmus gave me much more than just credits for my studies – it provided an incredible experience that made me realize what I really want from life. I found the best version of myself and, eventually, a new place to call home.

When I got the chance to apply for Erasmus again, I didn't hesitate for a second. When I told my family, they just looked at me and said: “Do we even have to ask where?” And honestly? No. Returning to Ljubljana was the easiest decision of my life.

You may ask why I chose the same city twice, but as the quote says, it was never the same "river". My first stay was about self-discovery, and finding my own voice. The second one was about returning home. And this time, the city gave me something even more precious – I found the love of my life.

So yeah, for me, this wasn’t just a semester abroad – it was a beginning of a completely new chapter.

If you are hesitating about going on Erasmus, just go for it. It’s the best decision you can make.

In the last year, I have travelled from Prague to Ljubljana five times, and each time by bus, because it is more comfortable, calmer, significantly cheaper, and takes essentially the same amount of time compared to flying. I always chose the night direct bus because my goal was to reach my final destination. But this time I decided to make it more adventurous…

I don’t live in Prague, so I had to get there first. If you’ve ever been to a capital city, you know how crowded it is with cars (and Prague is no different). So, to avoid the queues and the stress of finding parking, I chose a train.

In Prague, I changed to a bus as usual, but this time in a different direction – not directly to Ljubljana, but to Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia. There I had enough time to look around, to see the city centre and even the world’s oldest grapevine! Then I found myself on a train that took me across half of the country to Ljubljana.

This journey may seem ordinary or boring to you, but for me it completely changed my perspective on traveling itself. Often, we are in such a hurry to reach the destination that we forget to enjoy the journey, but this time the journey was the destination.

"Green Traveling" isn't just about the numbers, although they speak for themselves. While a flight would have taken me about 10 hours and cost 155 €, my land journey took 13 hours and cost only 57 €. But the real difference is elsewhere: instead of producing 360 kg of CO2, I produced only 20 kg!

But it’s more than just being eco-friendly and saving money. Traveling this way allowed me to slow down and enjoy the views. I was able to really appreciate the scenery, which changed from the familiar hills of the Czech Republic to the snow-capped peaks of the Austrian Alps, and finally descended into Slovenia with its forests and majestic mountains in the background (did you know that forests cover almost 60% of Slovenia’s land area, making it the fourth most forested country in Europe?!?).

Traveling by land for 13 hours instead of 10 in the air definitely didn't feel like a loss of time. It felt like watching a live documentary of Europe, like truly connecting with the distance I was covering, like a necessary pause to separate two different life stages.
