My Erasmus in Göteborg was supposed to last only a semester. Instead, it changed my life in ways I never expected.

From the first weeks, ESN Göteborg made the city feel welcoming and homey. I had a pretty rough start after landing in the emergency room on my forth day in a new and foreign country. But their events, support, and spirit brought people together. And before I knew it, I wasn’t just a participant anymore, I became an active member of the section.

What started as a way to meet new people quickly turned into something much bigger. I found a community I felt deeply connected to, people who shaped my experience and later became close friends.
Even now, three years later, Göteborg still feels like home. Every time I return, the familiar streets, the memories, and the friendships remind me of why this city will always have a special place in my heart.

Erasmus gave me more than an exchange semester, it gave me a second home. And no matter where life takes me next, I know I will always carry a part of Göteborg with me.

Your topic-specific testimonial
My Erasmus in Göteborg taught me more about cultural understanding than any classroom ever could.
Living in Sweden, surrounded by people from all over the world, I learned how different perspectives enrich every conversation, every project, and every friendship. ESN Göteborg played a huge role in this. Through their events and community, I became part of a space where everyone shared, listened, and learned from one another.

Some of my most meaningful moments came from small everyday interactions: cooking meals from different countries together, discussing traditions and values late into the night, or simply navigating life in a new city with people whose backgrounds were nothing like my own. These moments taught me empathy, patience, and curiosity, the real foundations of cultural understanding.

Even now after a couple of years, those lessons still shape how I see the world. The friendships I made continue to remind me that cultural differences aren’t barriers; they’re bridges waiting to be crossed. My Erasmus didn’t just introduce me to new cultures, but it taught me how to appreciate, respect, and celebrate them.
