My semester at Chalmers was a whirlwind of learning, laughing and living far outside my comfort zone. I was immediately surprised by how relaxed and open the relationship was between faculty and students, teachers genuinely cared about our opinions, and fika breaks were basically sacred rituals. I became such a fika enthusiast (kardemummabullar > kanelbullar) that my friends would come to me for cafe recommendations like I was running Gothenburg’s unofficial coffee hotline.

Academically, the course Sustainable Energy Futures stole my heart and made me fall in love with the energy sector. Most of our work happened through hands-on projects and presentations, and somewhere between collaborating, debating, and laughing through late-night group sessions, my teamwork and confidence levels skyrocketed. Sweden’s “don’t stand out” culture ironically helped me find a quieter, more grounded version of myself.

But Chalmers wasn’t just lectures and labs, I seriously made the most of it. I partied with both locals and internationals, joined spontaneous nights out, and still somehow had the energy to create my own “stitch and bitch” club, which became one of my favourite weekly rituals. I got outdoors more than ever: hiking in the archipelago, sweating it out at the Chalmers lake-side sauna cabin, and taking every chance to explore Scandinavia. Copenhagen and Lapland (Kiruna!) ended up being the top highlights of all my trips.

What surprised me most was how naturally everything clicked. I made friends quickly, learned how to blend in with Swedes while still being myself and opened up to new experiences in a way I hadn’t expected. I even started dating again and ended up meeting my boyfriend during this exchange.

Looking back, Chalmers stretched me, grounded me, and gave me some of the best stories of my life. It confirmed the career path I want to pursue, and it also reminded me how much joy there is in saying “yes” to new things.

The Swedish study experience is nothing quite like anything I have ever experienced. Studying at Chalmers was a really grounding experience for me. The pace of learning encouraged me to slow down, absorb more, and genuinely understand what I was doing. Most of the semester was spent working on group projects, labs, site visits, and presentations, so I was constantly applying what I learned rather than memorising it. I actually only had one exam the whole time. The workload definitely stretched me, but in a way that felt meaningful. By the end of the semester, I realised that everything I had done there didn’t just help me grow academically; it also confirmed the career path I want to follow. My time at Chalmers made me more confident in the direction I’m heading.
